
The “break” of just 11 working days in January was not able to bring some balance in the course of sales of the textile and clothing sector during the first two months of this year.
According to the data announced by the Association of Knit and Ready-made Garments of Greece (SEPEEE) in the first two months of 2021, a significant decrease in sales and exports was recorded due to the pandemic.
The largest decrease was recorded in the domestic market after the shops remained closed for most of the two months.
Turnover decreased by 28%. In the domestic market the decrease amounted to 35% and exports fell by 19%.
The total value of exports of the textile clothing chain in the first two months of 2021 amounted to 301 million euros compared to 372 million in 2020, recording a decline of 19%. Clothing lost more than 30%, while textile exports fell by 7%.
There was also a large decrease in imports, which for the whole chain recorded a fall of 29%. From 520 million euros in 2020 to 370 million euros in 2021. The reduction of clothing imports reached 34%, while for the textile industry 13%.
