The debt amounted to 205.6% of Greek GDP at the end of 2020, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). At the same time, the general government deficit amounted to 9.7% of GDP.
In particular, ELSTAT announced the financial data for the years 2017-2020, which were prepared in the framework of the first notification of the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP) of 2021 and which were submitted, in fulfillment of the country’s obligations, to Eurostat pursuant to the European Regulation (EC) 479/2009, as amended, in force. These data were produced based on the new Regulation ESA 2010 (549/2013) for the System of National Accounts, which became mandatory from 01.09.2014.
The General Government deficit for the year 2020, according to ESA 2010, is estimated at -16.1 billion euros (-9.7% of the Gross Domestic Product), while the gross consolidated debt of the General Government at nominal prices in end of 2020 is estimated at 341 billion. euros (205.6% of the Gross Domestic Product).
