Natural gas consumption continued to increase in Greece, with the Q1 figures for 2021 showing that a new import point at the Nea Mesimvria site in northern Greece and connection with the TAP pipeline boosting quantities.
According to the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator S.A., the national operator, domestic natgas consumption between January and March 2021 increased by 4.56 percent, reaching 17.64 TWh, up from 16.87 TWh over the corresponding quarter of 2020.
Imports, conversely, reached 19,16 TWh, slightly down from 19.82 TWh in the first trimester of 2020.
The biggest bloc of natgas imports entered through the Sidirokastro line (8,9 TWh), translating into 46.57 percent of all imports.
The Revythoussa isle terminal station off Piraeus accounted for 30.37 percent of the total, 5.82 TWh.
