Delta Airlines is the latest international carrier to announce a resumption of transatlantic flights to and from Greece, with the US airliner on Monday unveiling a new route connecting Atlanta to Athens for the coming summer.
Delta will also resume its popular NYC-Athens route after more than a year of suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The development comes after the Greek government said travelers from the United States are welcome in the east Mediterranean country on the condition that they have been vaccinated for Covid-19 or retain a negative PCR test conducted within 72 hours before they departure for Greece.
Resumption of flights were announced during a meeting in Athens on Monday between Greek Tourism Minister Haris Theocharis and visiting Delta Airlines president Glen Hauenstein, who arrived in Athens at the head of delegation of Delta executives.
Daily flights between New York JFK and Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport resume on May 28-29, 2021.
