Restaurants, cafes and certain categories of nightclubs will reopen in Greece on Monday, May 3, for seated customers, after several months of prohibition due to a pandemic-related lockdown.
Initially, no music will be allowed, with the government and civil defense authorities justifying the unpopular measure – following a whirlwind of criticism – to the fact that people must speak louder over music, something that causes virus to disseminate more easily.
The ministerial decision allows food and beverage establishments to serve only seated customers in outdoor areas, at least until Monday, May 10.
In addition, all staff employed on the premises will be required to carry out Covid-19 self-tests and to report a negative result on an online platform, while also wearing face masks at all times.
Greater spacing between tables is required, along with a maximum of six customers per table, with opening hours set from 5 a.m. to 10:45 in the evening.
Take out and delivery service will continue.
The measures do not apply to eateries and cafes within shopping malls, bus terminals or airports.
Hotel restaurants and bars can open only for outdoor service or if they serve exclusively hotel guests.
