Media reports in Greece this week have a high-level delegation of French energy multinational Total returning to the east Mediterranean country in the coming period – possibly in mid-summer – for talks with the Greek government.

According to a report in the Athens daily “Ta Nea”, the visit confirms Total’s interest in further hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in Greece.

Currently, the French energy giant is the operator of a consortium, which includes ExxonMobil and Hellenic Petroleum (Hel.pe), that has leased hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation rights for several blocks in the maritime region “west of Crete” and “southwest of Crete”, as the latter have been broadly described.

The same reports state that the consortium will commence seismic research in October, in both regions, as part of its contractual obligations from a concession grated by the Greek state.
