In the final straight is the connection to the electricity network of the photovoltaic projects of the Energy Communities created by the Union of Agrinio, with a total capacity of 100 MW, developed and constructed by the company kIEFER. It is estimated that the projects will be put into operation in the fall of 2021.
It is the largest constructed photovoltaic park in Greece, an investment of more than 300 million euros, in which about 500 families from Aetoloakarnania participate and another 2,200 benefit directly favored.
The main goal is to strengthen the role of citizens and local actors in the energy sector, as the basic aim is to generate added value for local communities.
The profile of the projects in Agrinio
klEFER TEK is cooperating with the Agricultural Cooperative “Union of Agrinio”, on the one hand for the development of large multi-share RES projects, on the other hand for the integration of energy systems in agricultural holdings.
This collaboration started in 2018, with the Agrotica 2018 exhibition, where the interested residents of Aetoloakarnania had the opportunity to be informed about biogas and photovoltaic technologies and the possibilities of investment and financial support in this sector.
The cooperation of the two bodies created the largest constructed photovoltaic park that exists today in Greece in the area of Katouna in Etoloakarnania. The project was financed by ProCredit Bank and constructed by kIEFER. The difference with this project is that it is “grassroots”, ie it operates with the participation of 500 families from the local community. This project is today a living example and guide for the whole of Greece.
It is worth noting that the Union of Agrinio grouped the projects and built the substation itself, thus giving the producers the opportunity to participate, something that would be practically impossible if they attempted it individually, due to network saturation.
