US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt officially opened Tuesday’s trading at the Athens Stock Exchange (ATHEX), on the occasion of next month’s 10th Greek investment Forum in New York City.
The forum is jointly organized by ATHEX and the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce between June 8 and June 11.
In greeting Pyatt, the CEO of the Athens Stock Exchange group, Socratis Lazaridis, referred to what he called the US envoy’s multi-faceted and substantive support for the Greek bourse, especially his encouragement of start-ups and innovation in Greece’s entrepreneurship.
The Greek prime minister’s top economic adviser, Alex Patelis, was also on hand.
Shortly after ringing the “opening bell”, Pyatt told reporters that the new Biden-Harris administration has a “laser-like focus on lifting up the U.S.-Greece relationship. As
President Biden told (Greek) Prime Minister (Kyriakos) Mitsotakis during their telephone call to mark Greek Independence Day, the United States is committed to working with Greece to pursue sustainable economic recovery in the wake of the global pandemic. President Biden knows Greece very well, and the Greek government is aligned with us on so many important issues.”
