New business registrations increased by 14.8% in the first quarter of 2021, amounting to 26,441, compared to 23,033 in the first quarter of 2020.
This emerges from data on the demographics of companies in Greece and in particular on the start-ups of businesses and business bankruptcies published today by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
According to these data, the largest increase in the number of new business registrations in Q1 2021 compared to Q1 2020 was recorded in the Information and Communication sector (61.6%) and in the Construction sector (39.8%), while the corresponding largest decrease was recorded in the sector Accommodation and Hospice Services (30.5%) and in the Manufacturing sector (14.5%).
Business bankruptcies for all sectors of the economy in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to just 7.
Respectively, in the first quarter of 2020 they had amounted to 6.
Regions
ELSTAT reports that the sectors per region of economic activity throughout Greece, in which the largest number of new business registrations are observed, are the following:
Northern Greece: Economic activity sector: wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 1,042 registrations out of total of 5,709.
Central Greece: Economic activity sector: agriculture, forestry and fisheries with 1,671 registrations out of total of 5,696.
Attica: of Economic activity sector: professional, scientific and technical activities with 2,224 registrations out of total of 10,455.
Aegean Islands – Crete: Economic activity sector: agriculture, forestry and fisheries with 2,319 registrations out of total of 4,581.
Sectors
The sectors of economic activity in which the largest number of new business registrations were recorded per category of the legal form of enterprise are:
-Individual enterprises: Economic activity sector: agriculture, forestry and fisheries with 5,396 registrations out of total of 18,294.
-Personal businesses: Economic activity sector: wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 740 registrations out of total of 2,576.
-Capital enterprises: Economic activity sector: real estate management with 68 registrations out of total of349.
-Other legal forms: Economic activity sector: real estate management with 1,239 registrations out of total of 5,222.
