An action of special symbolism is the planting of the pomegranate tree that took place on Saturday, May 29 in the yard of the 3rd High School of Oreokastro, marking the cooperation of Titan with the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, which this year celebrates 70 years of continuous action for protection of the natural environment.
The pomegranate that was planted is the tree with the number “2,000,000”. There are so many trees that were planted by Titan all over Greece by Saturday, in the context of the institution of environmental restoration and tree planting that it has been implementing continuously since 1971 in quarries, in areas affected by natural disasters and in various Municipalities and Regions of Greece, following the European and international trends in biodiversity and applying international standards and tools.
The Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature has been cooperating closely with Titan for decades and, as stressed by the vice-president of the Society Alexia Nikiforaki at the event, its action in the restoration of quarries and natural protection synergies are an example of modern entrepreneurship, realizing that sustainability is the only safe option for our planet.
The important work of the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, the oldest and one of the most active Greek environmental non-governmental organizations, was mentioned by Costas Nikolaou, Director of the TITAN Efkarpia Factory. By implementing environmental interventions, projects and nature protection programs, EEPF has sensitized and educated thousands of students and hundreds of environmental educators in collaboration with the FEE (International Foundation for Environmental Education), as well as thousands of ordinary citizens on environmental issues of our country. The valuable know-how of the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature has been utilized in the preparation of Local Studies for the protection of biodiversity in areas where TITAN operates, with excellent results.
The event, with the support of the Deputy Mayor for Everyday Affairs and the Association of Parents of the Municipality of Oreokastro, took place in the yard of the 3rd High School (with all safety measures) and the two meter high pomegranate has been under the protection of the school community since Saturday.
