After many years, the Enesel Group of Antonis and Filippa Laimos is returning to the bulk dry cargo transport sector. Three days ago the company received its first bulker in years “Thalassini Avra”, a capesize 180,000 dwt, which was built in 2011. It is noted that Enesel controls a fleet of tankers and container vessels and is now entering the dry bulk transport sector.
The ship was originally acquired by Valhal Shipping which is the exclusive representative of Enesel in the field of dry bulk. Valhal has in its fleet two more second hand capesize ships, the “Thalassini Astrid” which is expected to be received in June and the “Thalassini Agatha” which is expected to be receivd in the period July-September.
However, the Enesel Group, as noted in a relevant announcement, upon receiving the “Thalassini Avra” underlines its return to the Bulk carriers market.
It should be noted that Valhal Shipping based in Hamburg proceeded during the same period with the sale of two ultramaxes, under construction at the Dalian Cosco KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) shipyards in Korea.
Decade record for capes fares in May
The return of Enesel Group to bulk dry cargo, takes place at a time when the industry is open for very satisfactory profits. Capes fares hit a decade record in May as they hit $ 36,536 a day, last recorded in the second quarter of 2010.
The upward movement of fares has as a result the increase in the transactions of used ships as well as the values of the ships of the specific sector. Since the beginning of the year, the value of a 15-year-old Capesize has increased by 73.4%.
Smaller ships are not far behind, with their value (15 years old) having increased between 54.4% and 59.6% from January 1st to May 25th. So far this year, there have been 81 transactions of second hand bulk carriers, Bimco notes.
