Motor Oil has installed a battery storage system at the Agioi Theodoroi facility as part of its strategy to continuously improve the refinery’s energy efficiency.
The new system upgrades the flexibility and durability of the refinery infrastructure ensuring more energy autonomy.
This energy storage system was manufactured in the USA with special technology batteries, made of widely available raw materials, suitable for installation in an Oil & Gas environment and high temperatures. In terms of technology they have the ability of deep discharge, to constantly perform partial charge – discharge cycles without reducing their life time and to be controlled by a SCADA system which integrates all other electrical infrastructure of the refinery.
The installed batteries can store and then feed energy into the internal network of the 4MWh refinery, forming a flexible and environmentally friendly operation.
The installation and operation of the batteries in combination with the rest of the power generation facilities which consist of SITHYA gas turbine units and photovoltaic systems enable the refinery to reduce its carbon footprint by upgrading its energy autonomy.
