The Efkrantis 2020 Award “Total contribution to Shipping” this year was awarded to Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenidis, President of the Eugenides Foundation and IMO Maritime Goodwill Ambassador in Greece.
The Efkranti Awards are organized every year by the “Nautical Chronicles” and highlight the protagonists of Shipping.
The jury, whose members represent shipping literature, academic research, specialized information and, of course, the shipping business, selected those who excelled in 2020 at sea and on land. Among them is Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenidis, who was honored for his overall contribution to Shipping.
Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenides’s course in Shipping begins in 1976, from the position of Eugenides business executive, immediately after completing his studies in Economics at the Athens Law School and in Transport Economics (MSc Transport Economics) at the PCL in London-, while in 1995 he assumed the position of CEO. Since 2005, it has been active in coastal shipping, continuing at the same time the group’s services in seafaring.
At the same time, it is characterized by its dynamic attitude in the representation processes of the Greek merchant marine. In 1996 he was elected for the first time a member of the Hellenic Shipowners’ Association and from 2003 to 2012 he served the EUS from the position of Treasurer. He has represented the EU in the international organization UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) and is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics M.C.I.T. and the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
In 2015 he was awarded by the Academy of Athens for the standard operation of the Planetarium of the Eugenides Foundation, which is one of the largest and best equipped digital planetariums in the world.
For the work offered steadily for decades by the Eugenides Foundation in the field of technology and especially maritime education, Leonidas Dimitriadis Eugenides was awarded in June 2018 with an Honorary Doctorate degree of the Department of Maritime Studies of the School of Shipping and Industry of the University of Piraeus.
Since May 2018, Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenides is IMO Maritime Goodwill Ambassador in Greece. His aim – from this position – is to inform and attract young people to the maritime and merchant marine professions, as well as to raise their awareness of the benefits of such a career choice. The IMO Ambassador also seeks to attract new audiences and inspire a new generation of industry professionals.
