The heart of the tourism of the Epirus region beats strongly in Parga, the beautiful town of the prefecture of Preveza with about 4,000 inhabitants. The quaint town resembles an island. The unique combination of mountain, sea, histor,y and culture is a strong advantage for Parga.
With the health crisis, Parga, from the summer of 2020, made it possible to come back to domestic tourism and as everything shows, the effort has paid off. This year the tourist traffic has increased by 15%, while fullness is expected to reach 95% to 100%, in August.
To the advantages of the area, safety has now been added.
The easy access through Ionia Odos from Athens and through Egnatia from Thessaloniki place it high in the preferences of those who choose to travel with their own vehicle, avoiding mass transport.
Reservations
Although the start of this year’s tourist season was described as “lukewarm”, with occupancy hovering around 30% in early June, the figure reached 45% in early July, showing an increase of about 15% compared to the same period last year.
During this period, the occupancy reaches 75% -80%, a percentage also increased compared to 2020.
According to the reservations, for August, where the traffic of the season peaks, the fullness is expected to reach 95% to 100% in Parga.
The mayor of Parga Nikos Zacharias stated: “With a lot of work, coordinated efforts, vision and clear goals, we expect the municipality of Parga, with the overwhelming advantage of sea, mountain, history, and culture to become a top destination for both domestic and foreign foreign tourism. We are constantly improving our infrastructure at every level in order to provide the guarantees of a high level destination.
“Considering that Parga, although it has many entertainment options, is not a choice for those who prefer intense nightlife, a possible reduction in the opening hours of the shops will negligibly affect the rhythms and the tourist traffic of the city”.
Note that 95% of employees in tourism and catering businesses, in Parga, have been fully vaccinated.
68% of the general population has also been fully vaccinated.
