The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, as well as the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos on Tuesday evening expressed their solidarity and prayers that a bevy of major wildfires around Greece do not claim victims and will be extinguished soon.

In his message, Ieronymos also mentioned that humanity must also “consider its responsibilities vis-a-vis the environment and nature, which the Creator gifted us, and to realize that the effective management of climate change is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century for mankind”.

The Ecumenical Patriarchate announced that His All Holiness Bartholomew expressed hope that God will protect residents of the affected areas.

In a related development, the hoteliers’ federation of greater Athens said hotels in the area will host people affected by the wildfire north of Athens.
