110 tons of water
According to a report by protothema.gr, the three firefighting aircraft together will drop 110 tons of water at the same time: 12 tons from the Beriev and 49 tons from each Ilyushin.
The water bombings will take place in the Peloponnese, ie in the region of Arcadia and Ilia and in Evia, where the fire continues to burn for the ninth day.
In order to coordinate the operation, negotiations have been held between the Russian side, which, following the order of President Vladimir Putin, sent the two huge Ilyushins to Greece just 24 hours ago to assist in the firefighting and the Greek side, with the participation of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection and the Fire Brigade, as well as the General Staff of National Defense.
The simultaneous dumping of 110 tons of water, a water barrier to stop the fire that will be attempted for the first time in Greece, will be done in coordination with the ground forces and the police, so that there are no residents, volunteers or fire fighters near the site. where the throws will be undertaken by the three Russian aircraft.
