
Unemployment rose to 15% in June 2021, according to revised data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in June 2021 amounted to 15.0% compared to the upward adjusted 17.8% in June 2020 and the downward corrected 15.8% in May 2021.
Those employed amounted to 3,981,468 people, recording an increase of 181,470 people compared to June 2020 (+ 4.8%) and 64,281 people compared to May 2021 (+ 1.6%).
The unemployed amounted to 700,990 people, recording a decrease of 123,187 people compared to June 2020 (-14.9%) and 32,189 people compared to May 2021 (-4.4%).
The number of people not included in the workforce, or “people outside the workforce”, ie people who are not working or looking for work, amounted to 3,181,032, a decrease of 89,872 people compared to June 2020 (-2, 7%) and by 33,431 people compared to May 2021 (-1.0%).
It is worth noting that the monthly estimates are subject to revisions, due to the updating of the seasonally corrected time series each time new monthly data are added, as well as to the updating the seasonality model with complete annual data, according to ELSTAT.
Also, the initial estimates of the unemployment rate for each last month can be revised, because they are produced with the data collected and processed at the time of publication of the press release, which do not coincide with the data finally collected and processed, according to Monthly estimates are reviewed when the final quarterly estimates become known.
