The coronavirus does not seem to be receding in the country, just as the latest data show an increase in intubations with the health system being pressed again. Professor of Epidemiology Athena Linou spoke about the course of the pandemic, the post covid syndrome and the number of unvaccinated people on “MEGA” ψηαννελ.
Ms. Linou initially expressed her respect for religion, commenting on the loss of a 70-year-old man who lost his battle with the virus despite being fully vaccinated, noting that “more than 13,000 people died and were not vaccinated.”
“Right now we are losing 20 people a day without the huge dispersion we expect later,” she said, referring to the “post-covid syndrome.” “The disease leaves a lot behind,” he noted.
The post covid syndrome
“For many there remains a terrible exhaustion, cough, difficulty, for some months later they have loss of smell and it also affects mental health. People lose part of their memory, this virus affects all systems. 10% of people who get sick have this syndrome,” she stressed.
“The positivity index remains at 3% while we would like it to be below 1%. The numbers could easily double and triple,” she said when asked about the increase in cases we expect after the end of the summer.
Dr Linou clarified that with post covid syndrome, all those who passed the disease lightly are also at risk and that the vaccine also protects against this syndrome. Dr. Linou recommended attention especially in the coming period when we will move indoors and stressed that protection measures are necessary.
Shortly after the end of September, difficulties are expected, she mentioned and suggested the mandatory use of rapid tests and a protective mask where there is overcrowding.
