The chairman of the National Vaccination Committee, Maria Theodoridou, and the General Secretary of the Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Health, Marios Themistokleous, spoke about the rising pressure on the national health system due to the transmission of Covid-19 cases in our country and the administration of a third dose.

Vaccinated people are 65% less likely to transmit the virus than those who are not vaccinated, said Ms. Theodoridou.

A booster dose is intended to shield individuals who don’t have the needed immunological response. The other reason to get a third jab is to strengthen the antibody levels, as they decrease over time.

The people who will get a third dose, will get an m – RNA vaccine. It will be given to those who have had the first two doses of the m -RNA vaccines as well as to those having been vaccinated with the Astra Zeneca and Johnson vaccines. People will be able to get their third dose, four weeks after their second one.

The first ones to get the third jab will be the high-risk groups

  • Those having undergone a transplant or are on a waiting list for transplant
  • Cancer patients – Under chemotherapy, radiotherapy
  • Kidney patients
  • People in immunosuppression – anti-inflammatory or autoimmune diseases, with HIV infection etc.
