High occupancy is observed in Thessaloniki hotels for the two weekends of the 85th TIF, which will take place from 11 to 19 September, after a year of “absence” due to the coronavirus pandemic, but also the protection and precautionary measures of citizens.
Despite the fact that there are still several days until the official opening, there is interest from visitors for an overnight stay in the city, as stated on the radio station “Agency 104.9 FM”, by the president of the Hotel Owners Association of Thessaloniki (EXTH) , Andreas Mandrinos.
“Everything shows that the weekends of the exhibition, occupancy will be very high in hotels. There is mobility for the other days as well, but there is more interest for the two two days, when political events takes place”, said Mr. Mandrinos.
At the same time, the president of the Thessaloniki Hoteliers Association, appeared satisfied with the occupancy in July and August, emphasizing that the upturn came “from the invasion of the Balkan tourists”.
“The summer season was a pleasant surprise for us. We did not expect that the city of Thessaloniki would move so fast. The occupancy for the months of July and August was certainly not the same as in 2019, but we managed to get close to 60%. The main traffic came from the Balkans and less from Greeks and citizens of other countries “, added the president of EXTH.
He stressed, regarding the “closing” of summer and the arrival of autumn that beyond the days of the 85th TIF, September shows an increasing trend for mobility in overnight hotels, while expressing his concern for the coming months due to the escalation. of the pandemic.
“And generally September shows a trend. If we do not have surprises with the virus, the traffic will be at good levels. We are worried about October and November, because we are relying on these months. There are concerns on the one hand, but also assurances on the other that there will be no lockdown. We can not go to closures and restart again. With “low flights” we will be able to maintain ourselves”, Mr. Mandrinos underlined.
According to what has been announced so far, the 85th TIF will be held normally this year – in compliance with all health protocols – as the first Covid Free exhibition in Europe, while at the same time will take place the political-economic forum “Thessaloniki Helexpo Forum ».
