Greece’s public health authority reported another 2,871 Covid-19 infections over the past 24 hours on Wednesday, with nine detected at entry points into the country. The total since the advent of the pandemic has now exceeded 590K.
The Rt index for the country, based on reported infections, is estimated at 0.99.
Meanwhile, the number of intubated people in hospital ICUs suffering from acute Covid-19 symptoms is 346, of which 319 (92.2 percent) had not been vaccinated for the coronavirus.
Public health authorities began announcing the latter figure this week, in a bid to persuade people to get one of four vaccines available in Greece.
The average age of intubated patients is 65, with 84.7 percent suffering from an underlying health condition or aged above 70.
Additionally, another 47 related deaths were reported, bringing the pandemic’s death toll for Greece to 13,743. Of the victims, 95.3 percent suffered from underlying health conditions or were above the age of 70.
