Almost all hotels are open during the peak of the tourist season in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese, according to the findings of a survey conducted by the Institute for Tourism Research and Forecasting (ITEP) for the South Aegean.
The research is carried out in collaboration with the South Aegean Region, in order to monitor, on a weekly basis, the performance of the basic sizes of hotels, in order to capture the course of tourist traffic, as shaped by the current health situation.
From 65.2% in 2020 to 97.3% in 2021
Starting from close to 70% (69.8% to be exact) of the seasonal hotels that were open in June 2021, the week of August 16-22 ended with 97.3% of them operating during the second year of the pandemic.
It is also recalled that last year, the corresponding percentage of hotel staff that created a Health Protocol to be able to operate reached two thirds (65.2%) in the South Aegean.
This dynamic trend of the hotel potential was evident from the beginning of July, since on the 4th of the month, 94.9% had opened their doors to visitors.
Occupancy is up
But the occupancy rates in the hotels of the Cyclades and Dodecanese are evolving upwards, as from 30% on June 14, they escalated to a high percentage of 84.7% in the week of August 9-15, while during the week of August 16-22 they exceeded 80%.
It is also pointed out that every hotel, in order to open this year, is obliged to comply with the Special protocols of health content, based on which the necessary specifications for the reopening of tourism businesses are regulated, in the context of taking measures against the spread of COVID-19 .
The relevant declaration of compliance is made through the Hotel Chamber of Greece and for the acquisition of the special mark “HEALTH FIRST”, following training which is mandatory for all employees and is associated with the safe and legal operation of the company.
