A new conundrum regarding the burial of Mikis Theodorakis has arisen in the family of the great composer.
As we know, Mikis Theodorakis in his letter sent a few years before his death had decided both where he wants to be buried and which funeral home he wanted to undertake the process.
His daughter has an objection to the specific funeral home and her lawyer Alexis Kougias has taken over the case.
The body of the composer is currently in the First Cemetery of Athens and is being guarded by police.
Just yesterday, the family dispute over the burial place of Mikis Theodorakis ended, with his daughter Margarita finally agreeing to accept being buried at Galata, Chania.
Alexis Kougias, as a representative of Margarita Theodoraki, spoke to media:
“Ms. Theodoraki initially wanted Mikis Theodorakis to be buried in Vrachati, Corinth, but finally decided to bury him in the First Cemetery of Athens. However, the Association of Friends of Mikis Theodorakis from Chania intervened and I can tell you after a conversation with his daughter that she wants to go down to Chania. The law says that the deceased can preselect his burial place, but nowhere does it say that he can preselect the funeral home. That is the sovereign right of the relatives. ”
His last wish is written on a computer, as stated by Mr. Kougias, and this can also be disputed, but his daughter has decided to go to Crete. As for the funeral home, “there is a contract that we are disputing,” he added.
