Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Saturday morning toured several pavilions at the annual Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) in the northern metropolis, the largest trade and business exhibition in Greece and the venue for the customary state-of-the-economy speech given by the country’s head of government.
Coming in the wake of a difficult summer due to a series of devastating wildfires around Greece and with heightened concerns on whether a fourth “wave” of the Covid-19 pandemic can be avoided in the autumn and winter, Mitsotakis and a coterie of top ministers traveled to Thessaloniki to again promote “green growth” and the digital transformation of the service-dominated Greek economy.
In pressing home his government’s emphasis on digital and «smart» entrepreneurship, Mitsotakis attended an awards ceremony for start-ups, with 250 businesses affiliated with the Elevate Greece initiative participating.
Another highlight was Mitsotakis’ visit to the Public Power Corp. (PPC) pavilion, a day after the highest bid in an international tender for 49 percent of the latter’s transmission network operator, DEDDIE or HEDNO, reached 2.1 billion euros.
«I consider it as a very significant message of confidence for the company’s prospects, and the overall effort we’re making for transition to an economy of low to zero emissions».
