The Member of Parliament (MP) of A’ District of Thessaloniki, Dimitris Kouvelas, characterized the inflation as imported but he also stated that in any case “the consumer can feel the price increases in their pocket”. However, as he said, the prime minister listens carefully to the society and the answer will be given with the first measures to be announced today.
“At the end of the Prime Minister’s speech, everyone will be satisfied,” said Mr. Kouvelas. He also reminded that the government has made it in other difficult situations, referring to last year’s incidents with Turkey, the management of the crisis in Evros and the pandemic. “Last year we did it. So, now, the expectations are high,” he said.
Regarding the Greek-Turkish relations, he estimated that there isn’t any problem at the moment.
Returning to the issue of price increases, Mr. Kouvelas said that it is the obligation of the State to control the phenomenon of profiteering and that the price increases will be temporary, while he stressed that the new measures will be announced by the Prime Minister.
Regarding the refugee flows, he said that they have been zeroed, partly because of the competent minister Mr. Mitarakis, while he stressed that “the Greek borders are also the European ones”. Asked about the allegations of push backs, he said that everything will be investigated, but there is always the possibility of Turkish propaganda, adding that “it is the duty of the State to guard the borders.”
Asked about the reshuffling and the fact that none of the MPs from Thessaloniki have become Ministers, Mr. Kouvelas estimated that “the Prime Minister never wanted to proceed with a structural reshuffling” while, concerning the MPs from Thessaloniki, he said that according to Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself, “It does not matter where the ministers come from as long as the work is done.” We work for the city and the people and not for the places, concluded Mr. Kouvelas.
