September made an auspicious beginning in the islands of the South Aegean, judging by the number of international arrivals at the five international airports of Rhodes, Kos, Karpathos, Santorini and Mykonos in the first ten days.
The excellent performance in August, which exceeded expectations, continues in the first month of autumn, in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese. In particular, from September 1 to 12, more than 2,000 aircraft landed on the islands, carrying more than 270,000 passengers from abroad, more than half of the corresponding period in 2019.
Direct international arrivals in Rhodes reach one million
Of the approximately 270,000 passengers, 128,209 chose Rhodes for their vacation, adding to the total number of passengers the island has hosted since the beginning of this tourist season that has reached about 1 million, which means that Rhodes is already approaching the goal of doubling total arrivals of 2020.
The islands of Dodecanese, Kos and Karpathos also maintain a satisfactory pace of arrivals in the first month of autumn. More specifically, more than 62,000 passengers from abroad visited Kos by September 12, bringing the total number of air arrivals to the island by about half a million.
Respectively, the air traffic at the airport of Karpathos is reminiscent of August with the arrivals reaching 5,000 in ten days.
The Cyclades also win September’s wager
Flows from abroad continue very dynamically for Santorini, as, while throughout September last year it welcomed 33,853 visitors through direct international arrivals, in the first ten days of this month it has already exceeded them by more than 10,000, registering 45,057 arrivals (up to September 12).
The dynamics of Mykonos are also special, as in the first ten days it “covered” all the arrivals of September 2020 (30,620 arrivals).
It is noted that the above data do not include the passengers who travel through the international airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” with domestic flights but also the passengers who travel through the ferry network.
