
SYRIZA parliamentary representative, Euclid Tsakalotos, criticized the measures announced by the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking to OT.gr
As Mr. Tsakalotos stressed, the new measures announced by Kyriakos Mitsotakis favor the wealthy ones, referring, in this way, to the economic inequality that will be induced.
Concerning the new measures
Asked what they would do if SYRIZA were a government, Mr. Tsakalotos noted that “We would do what we did with the memorandums, when we reduced the fiscal space between expenditures and tax cuts” as well as we would follow a targeted policy to address inequality.
Mr. Tskalotos reminded that, despite the Memorandums, the SYRIZA government managed to reduce inequalities, poverty and child poverty.
Concerning the economic growth
The fact that we have economic growth is something really good, but this growth should be sustainable and fair, stressed Mr. Tsakalotos, while emphasizing that, if growth is not fair, it is not sustainable.
If you insist on inequalities, you do not raise the minimum wage and you do not make work more flexible, then this growth will be short-term.
Asked about Tsipras’ announcements, in the evening, he noted that his speech will focus on the middle class.
Concerning the elections
The parliamentary representative of SYRIZA estimated that we will have elections in 2022.
“I believe that the government doesn’t want to submit a preliminary draft budget in 2022 for 2023, when we will have the new stability agreement after the German elections.”
