Greek national carrier Aegean Airlines is renegotiating the delivery date of new A320neo aircraft, in order to have 30 of the state-of-the-art passenger jets flying by the summer of 2023.

The development comes after Aegean, amid the throes of the Covid-19 pandemic, initially pushed back delivery to 2025 and 2026. Nevertheless, a better-than-expected tourism season in Greece, accompanied by brisk air traffic numbers, caused the carrier to revise its delivery schedule amid signs of a full recovery in the travel and holiday sector next year.

Aegean has booked a total of 46 new A320neo for its fleet.

Speaking to industry analysts on Monday, via video-conference, and on the occasion of the release of Q2 2021 figures, Aegean Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis, reiterated the goal of 30 new Airbuses flying by 2023.

The development means that down payments for the aircraft in the second half of this year and the first timester of 2022 will reach 115 million euros.
