No less than 37 travel bags loaded with bootleg tobacco were seized at the Athens International Airport on Friday.
Police said a Lebanese national arriving from Beirut attempted to pass the tobacco – a type used for Middle Eastern “hookahs”, a multi-stem water pipe – and was arrested at the scene.
Each of the bags contained 30 one-kilo containers with the tobacco.
The total amount of tobacco confiscated was estimated at 1.1 tons.
