The importance of the adoption of the Greek-French agreement by the Greek Parliament was mentioned by the Greek Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during the debate in the Parliament.
At the beginning of his speech, he said that the agreement enhances the synergy of the two countries in the fields of defense, security and foreign policy. “The historical text is put before the Parliament, making today’s session historic,” he noted.
The adoption of this agreement, he added, will shield our country in the Mediterranean while, at the same time, as he said, this agreement will, also, strengthen the southern wing of NATO.
“The advantages of this agreement to our nation are clear. For the first time, a military assistance clause is provided in case a third party attacks one of the two states,” he stressed.
“We, as real Europeanists, we are called to become European pragmatists. As far as Greece is concerned, I believe that all citizens have realized the enormous importance of the defense agreement with France”, said Mr. Mitsotakis and noted, addressing all those who contest the need of adopting the aforementioned agreement.
“In case of attack, our country will have by its side the largest nuclear power in Europe,” stated the Greek PM.
His answer to those who contest the agreement
There is no defense without a strong economy to finance it, the Prime Minister noted, addressing those contesting the agreement, while, he also referred to the importance of the armament programs promoted by the Army.
The agreement, he added, is a legacy for our country to be passed on to future generations.
Personal references to Mr. Tsipras
Addressing the leader of the official opposition and all SYRIZA MPs, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that “I am addressing you because I have been informed that you do not want to vote in favor of the agreement. I urge you to reconsider your stance. ”
