The recovery of the industrial sector is reflected in the increase by 10.1% of the Industrial Production Index in August compared to the corresponding one for 2020 issued by ELSTAT, compared to a decrease of 3.9% recorded in the corresponding comparison of the year 2020 with 2019 .
At the same time, the average General Index of Industrial Production for the period January – August 2021, compared to the corresponding index for the period January – August 2020, showed an increase of 9.5%.
The seasonally adjusted General Index of Industrial Production for the month of August 2021, compared to the corresponding index of July 2021, showed an increase of 0.7%.
When comparing the August 2021 indices with the corresponding indices of August 2020, the largest percentage increase was recorded in the computer, electronics and optical manufacturing sector by 35.5%, while the largest percentage decrease was recorded in the ore mining sector by 36, 1%.
Evolution of Industrial Production Index, August 2021
The increase of the General Index of Industrial Production by 10.1% in August 2021, compared to the corresponding index of August 2020, came from the following changes in the indices of the individual industry sectors:
1. Due to the increase:
• By 25.5% of the Electricity Supply Index.
• By 6.2% of the Manufacturing Index. The increase was mainly due to the changes in the indices of the sectors: manufacturing of computers, electronic and optical products, production of basic pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical preparations, manufacture of other transport equipment, manufacture of electrical equipment, other manufacturing activities, leather and leather industry, printing and reproduction of pre-recorded media, manufacture of metal products, manufacture of clothing, production of other non-metallic mineral products.
• By 4.3% of the Water Supply Index.
2. From the reduction by 7.0% of the Mining – Quarrying Index. Changes in the indicators of the mining, coal and lignite mining – crude oil and gas extraction – mining support activities contributed to this reduction.
