Stefanos Tsitsipas qualified for the first time in his career to the “32” stage of Indian Wells, prevailing over the Spaniard Pedro Martinez with 2-0 sets (6-2, 6-4) after 1.34΄ and will now face the 34-year-old Italian Fabio Fonini.
In the first set, the Greek tennis player led 3-0 in the games, with Martinez “escaping” in the fourth by erasing the break point and reducing it to 3-1. However, he could not do anything until the end, with Tsitsipas taking two consecutive games and closing the set in his favor 6-2.
Things were completely different in the second set, where Martinez surprised Stefanos and led 3-1. However, Tsitsipas responded with a series of 3-0 to take the reins with 4-3, closing the game with two more wins (6-4) and getting the ticket for the continuation of the tournament.
The Greek champion had 22 winners and 11 effortless mistakes and his opponent has 18 and 21. The aces were 7-0 in favor of Tsitsipas, while the break points were 4/9 and 1/2 respectively.
