For many, buying a new car is a dream come true. Rising prices have made their purchase prohibitive for consumers.
In recent months, there has been a huge increase in the problem, with the result that this whole scenario is causing questions to consumers who do not know what to do. Buy now or wait for something to change and prices to fall?
What is certain is that in Greece to buy your own car you have to work hard.
Basic salary at 586 euros
In Greece, the minimum basic salary for a private sector employee with a length of service of 0 to 3 years is 663 euros. Of these, 586 euros go into the employee’s pocket. With this amount he has to pay obligations, buy food, buy clothes, commute and if he has anything left he can go for a walk outside. What is certain is that it will be very difficult to have more money to acquire a vehicle.
Suppose, however, that a worker saves the money he receives with a lifelong dream of owning a car. How long will it take for him to own an everyday “simple” vehicle?
12.5 years for a Porsche
According to newsauto.gr, for a new Hyundai i10 one has to work for 21 months. Respectively for a Fiat 500 22 months while for a… Mercedes 38 months. If the desire is to get the new Peugeot 3008 one will have to work 45 months or almost 4 years. Dreams always there so at the edge of the mind there is always the dream of owning a Porsche. The most affordable is the Boxster which costs 87,900 euros. In order to obtain it, a salaried employee in the private sector who is paid a basic salary will have to work for 150 months, ie 12.5 years.
Things are different with wages abroad, for example in Luxembourg. There, the basic salary exceeds 2,000 euros, so buying a car becomes easier. So for example the purchase of a Citroen C1 can be accomplished in 11 months while for a Porsche in 43.
