According to the president of hospital doctor’s union EINAP, Matina Pagoni, Northern Greece has a “very serious problem”.
Ms. Pagoni stressed that the rates of bed occupancy in the hospitals of Northern Greece tops 97% while there are clinics with occupancy reaching 100%. Ms Pagoni also said that there were 5 transfers of patients in Athens to hospitals of the first health district. The 2 patients were transferred from Alexandroupolis, the 2 from Larissa and 1 from Chalkida.
Increase tests and checks
Regarding what should be done to stop the pandemic, the president of EINAP said that the strict controls and the number of tests should be increased, while an information campaign is needed. She was adamant that there should be no lockdown again with 60% of vaccinated people, up to 70% with those who have become ill.
Irritating daily messages to the unvaccinated
She expressed concern about the effectiveness of the frequent sending of SMS to the unvaccinated, saying that “it is annoying” and that “I do not know how successful it will be”. She explained that the state addresses a specific group that needs special treatment as so far it has not been persuaded to be vaccinated.
“We started with very low percentages and we have reached where we have reached. “We will continue to fight,” she stressed.
For the assault on Professor Vasilakopoulos
Regarding the verbal and physical assault on pulmonology professor Theodoros Vasilakopoulos, Ms. Pagoni said that the management of such cases is very important and that tensions are not needed as we are in a “war” to convince people to go and get vaccinated.
The president of EINAP said that she shows an identity card and a vaccination certificate, whether she is asked to do so by the store or not, and that in this way “you put them in their place to do their job”.
She also said that scientists who appear in the media, as well as politicians, know that such an incident can happen.
“We all know that in some phases, circumstances, these events will take place. So you choose: either you go out and you and stand up for your scientific beliefs and maybesuffer these consequences or you do not go out at all”, she noted.
