
The gradual return to normalcy and the optimistic picture presented by the tourist flows is reflected in the course of enterprise turnover, which recorded a double-digit high increase in the third quarter, according to the data published by the Hellenic Statistical Authority. The protagonists in the rise were hotels and restaurants.
Concerning the enterprises and the activities of the economy as a whole, the turnover in the third quarter 2021 amounted to 91,460,665 thousand euro, recording an increase of 26.9% in comparison with the third quarter 2020, when the respective turnover was 72,055,403 thousand euro. The biggest increase in turnover per 79.9% in the third quarter 2021 compared with the third quarter 2020 was recorded from the enterprises of the section Accommodation and Food Service Activities, while the smallest increase in turnover per 7.2% was recorded from the enterprises of the section Mining and Quarrying.
For the enterprises of the economy as a whole, obliged to double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in September 2021 amounted to 25,381,511 thousand euro, recording an increase of 29.5% in comparison with September 2020, when the respective turnover was 19,599,116 thousand euro. The biggest increase in turnover in September 2021 compared with September 2020 was recorded from the enterprises of the section Accommodation and Food Service Activities per 67.1%, while the smallest increase in turnover per 2.0% was recorded from the enterprises of the section Water Supply, Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation Activities.

From the 210,217 enterprises that were under suspension of operation in March 2020, the turnover in the third quarter 2021 amounted to 10,974,499 thousand euro, recording an increase of 43.9% in comparison with the third quarter 2020, when the respective turnover was 7,626,638 thousand euro. The biggest increase in turnover per 127.2% in the third quarter 2021 compared with the third quarter 2020 was recorded from the enterprises of the activity class Accommodation, while the smallest increase in turnover per 2.5% was recorded from the enterprises of the activity class Gambling and betting activities.
For the enterprises under suspension of operation in March 2020, obliged to double-entry accounting bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in September 2021 amounted to 2,175,389 thousand euro, recording an increase of 34.8% in comparison with September 2020, when the respective turnover was 1,614,214 thousand euro. The biggest increase in turnover in September 2021 compared with September 2020 was recorded from the enterprises in the activity class Activities of membership organisations per 129.8%, while the smallest increase in turnover per 3.6% was recorded from the enterprises in the activity class Gambling and betting activities.
