The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), in the framework of its strategic partnership with important public and private sector bodies, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the General Staff of National Defense (GEETHA).
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Friday, November 12, 2021, by the Director of the 2nd Section of GEETHA, Vice Admiral Dimitrios Milas and the Rector of the Athens University of Economics, Professor Dimitris Bourantonis, in the presence of the Chief of General Staff Konstantos Floros.
The Memorandum of Cooperation between GEETHA and AUEB aims to develop a creative and close cooperation through joint actions that will bring multiple benefits to both AUEB and GEETHA, with a series of joint initiatives related to research and education.
In particular, the cooperation program includes both the educational and the research dimension:
· The educational dimension refers to the participation of officers of the Armed Forces (Armed Forces) in Postgraduate and other training programs of the AOP.
More specifically, it describes:
– cooperation at the level of Postgraduate Programs
– the attendance of Armed Forces officers in Accelerated Training Programs of the University Lifelong Learning Center (KEDIVIM).
– The research dimension of cooperation can be developed in two ways: On the one hand with the existing institutional platforms (for example, Jean Monnet Center of Excellence on EU Multilateral Diplomacy) and on the other hand with the launch of new projects, such as:
– the establishment of a Study Laboratory with emphasis on International Negotiations and Defense Economics in the Department of International and European Economic Studies (DEOS).
The cooperation of the two parties will be enriched with the organization of workshops and public events.
After the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation, the Head of GEETHA, General Konstantinos Floros, in his short greeting, expressed his satisfaction for the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation, which based on the fundamental value of excellence lays the foundations for a close, creative and beneficial cooperation between the two bodies, which have much in common in the fields of education, science and research. He also stressed the value of the cooperation of GEETHA with the AUEB in the acquisition of valuable knowledge and skills by armed forces officers and pointed out the possibility they provide by contributing to the research effort of the Foundation in individual financial, administrative, and technological sectors.
The Rector of the AUEB, Professor Dimitris Bourantonis, referring to the event, stressed that: “With the substantial cooperation of the two sides and the implementation of the described actions, we expect the two Organizations to benefit in many ways. The connection of research and education is – and in this great partnership – our contribution to meeting the real needs of Public Bodies for their support and development based on the quality and value of Excellence that both sides represent ” .
