Greece-based retailer Jumbo, billed as the biggest toy and home accessory store chain in the southeast Europe, showed signs of post-pandemic recovery heading into the all-important 2021 holiday season.

In November 2021, for instance, the group’s stores in Greece and Cyprus reported an increase in sales by 60 percent, compared with Covid-19-swamped November 2020.

In terms of the Jan-Nov 2021 period, sales were up by 12 percent compared to the same period in 2020.
Jumbo outlets in Bulgaria and Romania, however, posted significant decreases in sales for the same month of 2021.

The heavily advertised Jumbo brand, with several stores in the hypermarket size category and with outlets found around Greece, suffered heavily from the pandemic, as besides “lockdowns” and a lower sales volume, the group failed to field a reliable online shopping platform and distribution system.
