The Greek government has demonstrated that the country’s public administration can take digital leaps into the future, ones that seemed unthinkable not long ago, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told an audience at the Digital Economy Forum 2021 in Athens on Monday.
In pointing to one of his center-right government’s undeniable achievements over the past two and a half years, Mitsotakis said the digitization and online availability of numerous state services – a development greately accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic – is more than evident on the platform gov.gr.
According to Mitsotakis, more than 1,000 types of services are now available for citizens online, including bookings vaccination and “vax” certificates.
“The great revolution in digital transformation is inter-operability, which means that everyone needs to understand how to work together… no one is the sole owner of either systems or data, particularly a government that favors the idea of open databases, which is what we have also achieved with data concerning the pandemic.”
The Digital Economy Forum is organized and held annually by the Federation of Hellenic Information Technology & Communications, Enterprises (SEPE).
