The issue of schools but also when we will be able to control the pandemic was mentioned by the president of hospital doctors union EINAP Matina Pagoni.
Ms. Pagoni stated – against the background of the explosion of cases – that the coverage of ICU beds in the hospitals of Attica and Thessaloniki reaches 91%, however, as she said, the patients are sick with the Delta mutation and not the Omicron.
Regarding the course of the pandemic, she told SKAI channel that from May onwards, things will be much better as “the virus will not greet us but we will be able to fully control it”.
“No” to school closures
At the same time, the debate has erupted over whether the schools should reopen on January 10 or whether new measures should be taken to ensure the safe return of students to their desks.
Ms. Pagoni, however, for her part, expressed the view that schools can and should be opened normally with a change in operating protocols for tests and personal protection measures, noting that it is not possible to keep children locked inside homes.
As she said, it is not possible for the children to stay closed in homes, they will come in contact with friends, their parents will go to work while they will continue to take private lessons at home.
She added that nowhere in the world were schools closed due to Omicron’s new pandemic wave.
The president of EINAP warned that a large number of cases are expected in the near future and that the peak is expected around 12 to 15 January.
