New arrears to Greece‘s tax bureau totaled 5.135 billion euros over the Jan-Nov 2021 period, with the number of taxpayers – individuals and businesses – owing money to the state now exceeding four million.
In November 2021 alone, 750 million euros in new arrears to the tax bureau were created.
According to figures released on Tuesday by the country’s independent authority for public revenues (AADE), total arrears to the tax bureau and social security funds now exceed the stratospheric 110 billion euros.
Of the latter figure, however, tens of billions of arrears are considered as uncollectible, owed by businesses and corporate entities now longer in operation or even by individuals now longer economically active or even alive.
