With double, triple or even quadruple lotteries, the taxpayers who consume and pay with electronic money amounts that exceed 30%, 50% or 70% of their monthly income will participate in the tax lottery every month. The new tax lottery, which will premiere in February, will distribute from 1,000 to 50,000 euros each month to 556 lucky taxpayers, while every Christmas there will be a super lottery that will distribute 100,000 lucky taxpayers 100,000 euros each. The prize is tax-free, does not constitute income and is not subject to any withholding in favor of the State or a third party.
For every euro consumed using a card or other electronic means of payment, a lottery ticket is calculated. However, the amount of electronic receipts, marital status and the amount of income of the taxpayer will give “lottery” bonuses. That is, such perks will allow taxpayers to participate with more draws in the tax lottery.
A joint decision of the Deputy Minister of Finance Theodoros Skylakakis and the Deputy Minister Apostolos Vesyropoulos determines the changes in the tax code that apply to transactions made using a credit/debit card or other electronic means of payment, from January 1, 2022. More specifically:
The prizes
The tax lottery will draw and then pay 556 lucky draws as follows:
– 1 will win 50,000 euros,
– 5 will win 20,000 euros,
– 50 will win 5,000 euros and
– 500 will win from 1,000 euros.
Christmas draw
During the last ten days of each year the following will be drawn and paid:
– 12 lucky draws that win 100,000 euros each and
– lotteries winning € 1,000, the number of which is determined by the total amount of money that may have remained unallocated during the previous monthly draws, which took place from September of the previous year to August of the current year.
How lotteries are calculated and when they increase
– The maximum transaction limit is set at 10,000 euros per month per participant and for every euro consumed using a card or other electronic means of payment, a lottery ticket is calculated.
– Lotteries are increased in the following cases:
a) If the amount consumed using a card or other electronic means of payment within the reference month exceeds 30%, 50% or 70% of the monthly income, the lottery tickets are doubled, tripled or quadrupled respectively.
For example, a taxpayer with a monthly income of 1,000 euros, if he makes purchases with cards amounting to 1,350 euros per month, then his lottery tickets are doubled to 2,700 euros. If he consumes 1,500 euros then he participates in the draw with 4,500 lotteries while if he makes purchases of 1,700 euros then his lottery tickets increase to 6,800 and together the chances of winning one of the cash prizes of the tax office.
b) Citizens with annual, individual, real net income, taxable and exempt from the submitted income tax return which is the last for which the submission deadline has passed, less than 1,000 euros as well as non-taxable income tax earners receive double for each euro they consume without further increase depending on the percentage on the monthly income consumed by electronic means of payment. For example, a taxpayer with an income of 800 euros who consumes 500 euros per month with a card will participate in the monthly lottery with 1,000 “tickets”.
c) The tickets for each participant are increased by 50% of the calculated according to the above, for each protected child, as results in each case from the joint or separate income declaration of the parents.
– Citizens with annual, individual, real net income, taxable and exempt from the submitted income tax return which is the last for which the submission deadline has passed, equal to or greater than 60,000 euros, receive one ticket for every euro they consume, without the surcharges.
– Monthly income means 1/12 of the annual, personal, actual net income, taxable or exempt of the submitted income tax return which is the last for which the submission deadline has passed and does not include the income resulting from the observed presumption difference.
Citizens are informed before the draw about the lottery tickets they have collected (how many and their serial number) through an application available for certified users in the myAADE environment of AADE, on the website www.aade.gr.
The lottery calendar
The monthly draws take place by the end of the month following the month in which the transactions took place, electronically, in collaboration with an independent certified body.
The “cutters”
Citizens who win a prize of at least 5,000 euros in a monthly draw / draws within the same calendar year are excluded from getting a prize in the remaining monthly draws for the same calendar year. Citizens who win a prize of 50,000 euros in a monthly lottery, are excluded from participating in the annual lottery within the same calendar year.
Informing the winners
The winners are informed through a personalized message in their personal account and with a message in the e-mail account (e-mail) that they have declared to the Tax Administration.
How the prizes will be paid
The cash prizes are credited to the payment account declared or will be declared by the interested party for this purpose in the myAADE of AADE, in the option “Register and Communication” and in which he is required to appear as a beneficiary. Citizens who are drawn and have not declared a payment account, are given a period of 3 months from the day following the date of the draw, in order to declare to AADE, the account to which they wish the cash prize to be credited. The credit of the amount in this case is made without interest, after the declaration of the payment account.
