
Heavy snowfall has been occurring since the morning in Pelion and has covered everything, while Volos woke up in white after snow has started to fall, since dawn, in the capital of Magnesia.
In the mountains of Pelion the snowfall is very intense and dense and mainly in Eastern Pelion, since the area is at the center of the severe weather front. Already, in Zagora the snow has exceeded 10 cm, while in higher villages, such as Kissos, it reaches about 20 cm and the snow is still falling heavily.
According to the mayor of Zagora-Mouresi, Panagiotis Kotsaftis, who spoke to national news agency AMNA, winds are blowing and a lot of snow is expected in the area, but the roads remain open and efforts are being made to keep both the main roads and the those that lead to the Zagora Health Center open.
Schools in the greater Zagora area will be closed today and tomorrow.
The schools in the municipality of South Pelion are closed today and tomorrow after the decision of the mayor Michalis Mitzikos, due to the snowfall and the frost that prevail in the area.
The Sporades are also experiencing the severity of the bad weather, since the dawn found all three islands have been covered by snow and the snowfall continues with great intensity.
In Skopelos and Alonissos the height of the snow has reached in many places up to 30 cm, especially in the mountain passes, while in Skopelos Town at 20 cm.
Schools are closed, but the roads are open.
Snow to the sea in Skiathos
In Skiathos the snow reached the sea and the island is white since the continuing heavy and dense snowfall the height of the snow even in Skiathos Town has reached 20 cm, but according to the mayor Theodore Tzoumas the roads of the island, and mainly the Skiathos-Koukounaries axis, are open since 14 snowplows of the Municipality and the Region are constantly moving to keep the road network open.
Volos also woke up in white, since the entire urban complex, even its coastal suburbs, have been covered by a layer of snow which exceeds 5 cm in the suburbs. The temperature in Volos is at 1 degree, but the wind that blows gives the feeling of lower temperatures.
The schools by decision of the mayor of Volos Achilleas Beos, today Monday and tomorrow Tuesday, will be closed throughout the area.
