The Avax – Mytilineos consortium has emerged as a temporary contractor for the construction of the new Eastern Ring Road (FlyOver) in Thessaloniki, a 373m-euro project to be built by the Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
According to the announcement of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, after the evaluation of the binding offers, the temporary Contractor of the project is the ASSOCIATION OF PERSONS AVAX SA. – MYTILINEOS SA
The next step is the contracting of the project and the start of construction work by the end of the year.
The New Eastern Ring Road of Thessaloniki (FlyOver), will be a new, state-of-the-art air highway that will provide a final solution to the city’s traffic problem as it will make travel faster and safer, with absolute respect for the environment.
In detail, the project concerns the construction of an Elevated Expressway (UTL, the so-called FlyOver), approximately 13.5 km long, of which 4 km on a continuous bridge, with 4 lanes, two plus lane of emergency (LEA), per direction. Project elements also include nine uneven junctions, eight new bridges and three new tunnels.
This creates a high-standard road axis that will allow the rapid and safe bypass of the urban fabric, reducing the volume of cars that will circulate in the city center.
In a statement, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Costas Karamanlis stressed: “In Thessaloniki, a coherent program of projects is evolving that will completely reform the city. The construction of the largest air route in Greece, FlyOver will significantly upgrade the transportation experience of citizens who will have at their disposal a safe and modern highway. The competition, for one of the most emblematic projects that will take place in Greece, proceeded very quickly, proving that we are implementing our commitments and giving Thessaloniki the infrastructure it needs to become a Metropolis of the Balkans “.
On his part, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in charge of Infrastructure, Mr. Giorgos Karagiannis underlined that: “FlyOver offers a modern and definitive answer to the traffic problem of Thessaloniki, while upgrading road safety. This is a technically demanding project that the residents will be proud of. We are very pleased that citizens will soon see construction sites being established on this highway, just as we promised.”
