Records were broken in the charter of container vessels as it became known by Alphaliner the ship “Messini” 2,452 Teu of Costamare that was built in 1997 was chartered to Wan Hai Lines for 12 months at $ 80,000 a day.
This, as Alphaliner points out, is the highest fare in the history of the industry for a ship of this age and this charter duration.
It is also worth noting that the X-Press Mekong, with a capacity of 2,756 teu, was chartered for just 50 days at 175,000 per day. That means the ship will generate $ 8.75 million in revenue over 50 days. It is also the highest fare ever booked for ships of this size.
In 2022, which is the year of the tiger, according to the Chinese calendar, all records in the containerships industry will be broken, analysts estimate, as the number of ships available for charter is minimal.
