The president of Hospital Doctors Union EINAP, Matina Pagoni spoke to MEGA channel about the course of the pandemic and the vaccines.
Regarding the 3rd dose, Ms. Pagoni stated that, “studies have been done, people should do the 3rd dose and especially those over 60 years old, especially those who have underlying diseases. We can not compare our case in Greece with other countries. Each country is at a different stage of the pandemic. Many are unvaccinated, the unvaccinated are late going to hospitals, because they have different reasoning, that they will stay home and recover. In addition, there are people over 60, with subjects who make complications especially with “Delta”, which may not be as aggressive as “Omicron” and the sub-variants, “Delta” is a difficult variant, it causes pneumonia. The 300,000 unvaccinated, as well as those who have taken one or two doses, can become very sick.”
Strengthening the NHS & lifting restrictions
“The medical staff are always at the forefront and they deal with every case that comes up. The further strengthening and financing of the hospitals is important and necessary”, said Ms. Pagoni.
Regarding the course of the pandemic, Ms. Pagoni clarified that, “hard indicators, deaths and ICU patients will be slow to decrease, because when you are in the unit and you have your complications, it is difficult to get discharged. Slowly at a slow pace this will happen. Restrictions on masks will go away after Easter, from June onwards, if things continue to go well. If at this time, when the restrictions on food service have been lifted, we will go with the reasoning to dine out and have fun, always with care.”
