
The first steps for the reopening of the Zakynthos Shipwreck site were recorded in the meeting of the Greek Tourism Minister, Mr. Vassilis Kikilias, with the members of the Committee for Standard Tourism Utilization and Protection of the Shipwreck, which took place, today, at the Ministry of Tourism.
Mr. Kikilias set the objectives of ensuring the safe access and stay of the visitors, the maintenance and avoidance of the risk of collapse of the shipwreck and the protection of the geomorphological environment, while he asked the members of the Committee and the bodies representing them to submit their proposals, as well as the relevant reports or studies that have been done so as the aforementioned goals to be achieved.
“Zakynthos Shipwreck is the second most photographed destination in Greece. It is the duty of the State and the local bodies to ensure access to the area, based on the safety of residents and visitors, so that the Shipwreck becomes a sustainable tourism product of very high quality”, the Tourism Minister pointed out, adding that the Commission will overcome any bureaucracy problems and will decide on the necessary projects, taking at the same time all the necessary provisions for the observance of legality and the protection of the environment.
