He stressed that metro projects are complex and planning begins many years before the project. “No room for clumsiness and clutter”

In the first phase, the expansion will concern 3 stations: Palatiani, Ilion and Agios Nikolaos. Two of the three stations are located on Thivon Street, the first (Palatiani station) at a distance of about 1,300 m north of Anthoupolis station and the second (Ilion station) 1,000 m north of the first. The third station (Agios Nikolaos) is located on Agiou Nikolaou Street in Ilion.
By the end of 2022, both the required technical studies and the environmental permit process of the project will be completed, so that the construction bidding can begin. According to the deputy minister, the construction time of the extension of line 2 in Ilion is 5 years.
“We are talking about a project of 350 million euros, there is no room for sloppiness and waste,” said Mr. Karagiannis.
