Greece’s shipping ministry, which oversees the coast guard, on Friday evening clarified that one of two men rescued from the garage of a burning ferry boat hours earlier was not listed on an official passenger’s manifest, meaning that the number of missing is still 12.
A desperate rescue effort had freed two trapped men from the garage of the burning “Euroferry Olympia”, which issued a SOS in the early morning hours of Friday while sailing north of the Ionian Island of Corfu.
According to Mega channel in Athens, the two rescued individuals were a Turk and a Bulgarian national.
Efforts are continuing for 12 missing passengers, with a specialist unit of Hellenic Coast Guard divers headed to the stricken vessel
