Greece’s Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO or ADMIE), the country transmission system operator, and Albanian’s relevant Transmission System Operator (OST), are reportedly in advanced talks to build another power interconnector between the two neighboring countries.
According to reports, the Greek transmission system operator will participate in funding the project, while a meeting on Thursday also broached OST’s participation a regional energy control center (SEIeNe CC), which will be headquartered in Thessaloniki.
Both operators have already established a joint business team to focus on the prospect of a new interconnector line, which is reportedly eyeing a conventional power cable infrastructure with a high voltage transport of 400kV.
The meeting in Athens on Thursday was attended by ADMIE CEO and president Manos Manousakis, Albania’s deputy ministry of energy and industry, Ilir Bejtja and OST CEO Skerdi Drenova
