The EU’s ambassador to the United States, Greek career diplomat Stavros Lambrinidis, on Tuesday referred to tectonic changes taking place on the geopolitical front in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The veteran diplomat spoke during a two-day conference organized in Washington D.C. by the Delphi Economic Forum and the Hellenic American Leadership Council, namely, the third annual South East Europe & East Med conference.
Amb. Lambrinidis said it was now imperative for the international community to make a coordinated effort in the face of Russia’s aggression, while also preventing support for Moscow by other countries, “such as China”, as he said.
Along those lines, he said that beyond the actual warfare on the field, the conflict also marks a “crucial strategic moment” for Beijing, as it will need to inaugurate cooperation with the US and EU in order to prevent a disruption of the global geopolitical status quo.
